2019 ShanghaiTech Bioforum

Cellular Mechanisms in Health and Disease

The three Life Science Institutions of ShanghaiTech University, School of Life Science and Technology (SLST), Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), iHuman Institute (iHuman), will join efforts to organize a joint Bioforum on November 10-14, 2019. ShanghaiTech University was founded in 2012 under the sponsorship of China’s Ministry of Education and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was founded as a Research Institution pursuing excellence in Science & Engineering and Management Science, with the goal of rapidly making it a prime Research Institution in the country. So far, it consists of five Schools and three Research Institutes, three of which, as indicated above, SLST, SIAIS, and iHuman, are devoted to research in the Life Science area. In the first six years of their existence, a state-of-the-art research organization has been built and focused on elucidation of the most fundamental problem in life science research, spanning essentially all topics in cell biology, molecular biology, structural biology, neurosciences and biochemistry.

In the past six years, the SLST, SIAIS, and iHuman Institute have individually organized a number of  Bioforum-like scientific meetings that have focused on challenging topics and disciplines in life sciences that include membrane proteins, macromolecular machines, cellular pathways, host-pathogen interactions, a number of genome-related problems as well as the visualization of cellular processes using cutting-edge technologies. Each  single Bioforum chose a particular relatively broad topic as its main focus of discussion and, in keeping with this trend, the joint Bioforum in the November will also highlight a particular theme: Cellular Mechanisms in Health and Disease. The purpose of this forum is to provide an opportunity to discuss the exciting fields in cellular mechanism in health and disease such as mitochondria in health and disease, endoplasmic reticula in health and disease, autophagy, apoptosis, cellular and molecular neuroscience, cell division, progression, patterning, RNA biology and cancer biology.

The venue of the Bioforum will be the Conference Center in the beautiful campus of ShanghaiTech University. As mentioned, the Bioforum will last 4 days, and will offer a high-level panorama of current developments in this very exciting area of cell science.

We look forward to welcoming you in Shanghai!
